After waiting breathlessly for almost eight hours for it to dowload, I have finally been able to sit down and watch the musical from beginning to end (2 and half hours worth) and I love it so much.  For us DN fans this has been a great year, the tenth anniversary has brought us a well done new drama series, the musical and the news of the release of a blu-ray collection of the anime.

The muscal is so very well done and Teppei Koike is brilliant as L as is Kenji Urai as Light in this first version.  The second version with the second Light (Hayato Kakizawa) will air on November 7th and I can't wait to see the difference in his Light.

There are several sites from which you can download it from but be assured they will all take 8-12 hours to download.

Just in case anyone's still interested in seeing info on that musical in Japan, there is an official FaceBook page for it.…

It is in Japanese but there's a translation option there for most of it.  It has pictures of both actors that are doing Light and L and I have to tell you they look brilliant.

Also, apparently in Japan they released a new version of the color...that they 're keeping to themselves.  It's only available on Amazon in Japan and can only be purchased with a Japanese credit card.  I don't know why they're being so mean about sharing it with the West, but they are.  I've seen what it looks like, it 's absolutely beautiful and it's so unfair.  But if any of you have any friends in Japan, perhaps you can persuade them to get it for you!

Good luck!

Frank Wildhorn Musical Death Note Has NYC Reading With Andy Kelso, Robert Cuccioli and Adrienne Warren Prior to Japanese Premiere
By Adam Hetrick

Death Note, the new Frank Wildhorn-Jack Murphy musical based on the Japanese manga series, received a New York workshop this week in anticipation of a 2015 Tokyo premiere. Andy Kelso, Robert Cuccioli and Adrienne Warren were among the cast.

The new musical is based on the wildly popular Japanese comic book series about a high school student who finds a notebook that allows him to kill anyone whose name is written within its pages. "Death Note" was created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and manga artist Takeshi Obata.

The mangas have also been adapted into a lucrative Japanese animé, video game and live-action film franchise. They are also popular among U.S. comic enthusiasts.

Death Note reunites Wildhorn with his Bonnie & Clyde book writer Ivan Menchell and lyricist Jack Murphy (Wonderland, The Civil War). The musical adaptation centers on the initial episodes in the series.

"It's probably one of the coolest things that I’ve been asked to do," Wildhorn told "It's a different way of looking at death, the people and their gods, and it's quite an extraordinary project," Wildhorn added.

Wildhorn's musicals Jekyll & Hyde, Bonnie & Clyde and Carmen have been huge hits in Asian markets, and it was Japanese producer HoriPro that approached Wildhorn about adapting "Death Note" into a stage musical.

The April 14 workshop was presented in English, but Wildhorn stated that the production will then be translated into Japanese for its April 2015 Tokyo debut. A Korean-language production, produced by Musical Heaven, will follow in July 2015. Death Note marks the first major original musical to be co-produced by Japanese and Korean partners.

The April 14 workshop, which was presented for Japanese and Korean producers, was directed by David Alpert (If/Then, The Trip to Bountiful). The cast featured Kelso (Kinky Boots) as Light, Drew Gehling (Jersey Boys) as L, Tony Award nominee Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde) as Soichiro, Warren (Bring It On) as Misa, Deborah Lew (South Pacific) as Toko, Eric Anderson (Rocky, Soul Doctor) as Ryuk and Jackie Burns (If/Then, Wicked) as Rem.

The ensemble included Alysha Deslorieux, Sean Jenness, Sara King, Dan Kohler, Adam Pribila, Rashidra Scott, Sara Sheperd and Jason Wooten. Death Note has musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Jason Howland.

The actors assembled for the closed New York workshops will not be part of the Tokyo or Seoul premieres.

Hello everyone, just discovered some information for the upcoming Death Note Musical and thought I would share it!

In case some of you don't know, it was announced that a Death Note musical is in the works in Japan, to be played in Japan and Korea.  Music is being written by Frank Wildehorn, the author of such Broadway musicals as "The Scarlet Pimpernell" and "Jeckyll and Hyde" and as I love both of these musicals I'm sure he's going to do the story great justice.  Jack Murphy writing the lyrics and Ivan Menchell the script. Tamiya Kuriyama directs.

There is now a website for it:… which of course is all in Japanese but here is the information I have about it that I know so far and it isn't much:

Japan - April 2015 - Nissay Theatre (Tokyo)

Korea - July and August 2015 - LG Arts Centre (Seoul)

Can't wait to find out the casting...keeping my fingers crossed that it will be as awesome as it seems it will be!

Would I put a photo of an L figure in the cosplay-photography folder, or the L folder?

Um hi, I just submitted my story for the first DN Files challenge, though it did not let me submit it to the right folder. I put it in the fanfic folder instead. I hope that's okay? Here's the link to the story if you need it…

I found out something that I thought I should share with you guys, that I thought ya'll might find interesting:

So you know how L is often called "Panda-like" by us fans? And how he has two successors he was supposed to choose from to be the heir to his title?

Real-life pandas actually do something similar: if a panda mom has twins, usually only one survives as Mom selects the stronger of the cubs and leaves the weaker one to die, presumably because she lacks enough milk to nourish them both. Dad has no involvement in rearing the young whatsoever.

Recall that one of L's successors after running away is forced to strike out on his own and does die in the end, and to the benefit of the other who has easy access to L's resources, including his fortune.

Think about that the next time the nickname comes to mind...
